Amazon Scraper API vs Proxy: Choose a Product Data Source

Read guideCompare dedicated and shared proxy access by exit IP, gateway, credentials, and session. Learn which terms to confirm before a pilot.

A dedicated proxy usually means some part of the service is reserved for one customer; a shared proxy is used by multiple customers. The words alone do not say whether the reserved resource is an exit IP, port, gateway, credentials, or capacity, so confirm the exact scope and term before comparing offers.
“Dedicated” and “shared” are commercial labels, not HTTP protocol categories. RFC 9110 defines what an HTTP proxy does, but it does not set a universal rule for provider exclusivity. One supplier may reserve an IP address; another may reserve access credentials or a port while selecting exits from a shared pool.
| Service element | What exclusivity could mean | Question for the provider |
|---|---|---|
| Exit IP | One customer is assigned an address for a stated period | Is the address exclusive, static, and reserved for the full billing term? |
| Gateway or port | One customer receives a connection endpoint | Does that endpoint still draw from a shared exit pool? |
| Credentials | One account or user can authenticate | Can multiple customers or subaccounts use the same route? |
| Capacity | A concurrency or bandwidth allocation is reserved | What happens when the limit is reached? |
| Session | Related requests keep an exit temporarily | What ends the session, and can the exit change during it? |
A sticky session is a continuity option, not proof of a dedicated IP. A session identifier can request the same exit for a period while the provider still operates a shared pool. The rotation and sticky-session guide explains how to record session behavior separately from browser or account state.
Consider a data team collecting public product availability from several markets under an approved access plan. If each request stands alone, a shared pool may be operationally adequate, provided the service documents its rotation rules, concurrency limits, and billing units.
If the task depends on a stable route across several pages, the team should test session continuity and ask whether a fixed exit is actually required.
If a partner system accepts traffic only from pre-approved addresses, a dedicated or static exit may simplify allowlisting. That requirement concerns the observed address and its lifecycle. Dedicated credentials alone do not satisfy it if the provider rotates the egress IP.
An exclusive address also does not guarantee target acceptance, low latency, clean reputation, or uninterrupted availability. Those outcomes depend on route, target policy, network conditions, and provider operations. A shared address may be rejected because of another user's traffic, but that possibility is not evidence that every shared service performs poorly.
Before a pilot, get the provider's definition of exclusivity in writing. Confirm whether it applies to each egress IP or only account access; the start and end of the reservation; replacement policy; permitted concurrency; traffic limits; billing for retries; and support response when an exit fails.
Then test one representative, authorized workflow. Record the endpoint, observed exit IP, session identifier, timestamp, response, and recovery behavior. Repeat after reconnecting and across the relevant workers. A single successful request verifies connectivity at that moment; it does not prove exclusive use for the subscription term.
The useful comparison is the resource the workflow actually needs. Choose shared access when pooled exits and provider-managed rotation meet the acceptance rule. Pay for dedicated allocation only when the contract identifies the reserved resource and the task benefits from that specific guarantee. If exclusivity is undefined, the decision remains unverified.
