Amazon Scraper API vs Proxy: Choose a Product Data Source
Compare seller APIs, licensed Amazon product data and proxy page checks by record, access scope and reuse rights.
Read guideSeparate IP allocation, network type, and session lifetime. Use a repeatable continuity check before choosing a static ISP or mobile proxy.

Quick answer: Choose by the property the task must keep: allocation exclusivity, network provenance, or reconnection lifetime. “Dedicated,” “static,” “ISP,” and “mobile” describe different dimensions, so verify each in the supplier’s terms and against a permitted endpoint. A label alone does not prove a fixed exit, carrier, or exclusive use.
Warning: Start with an owned sandbox endpoint and an authorized test route. A production check requires explicit permission and a fixed traffic allowance. Run only the planned first and repeat observations, then stop; each request may incur traffic charges.
| Buyer requirement | Candidate category | Verify before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| One exit for a known period and one account workflow | Static ISP or dedicated datacenter/ISP | Lease or active period, exclusivity, location, protocol and replacement terms |
| An exit associated with a cellular network | Mobile, 4G or 5G offer | Carrier, country, address sharing, rotation rule and data unit |
| A fresh regional exit for each request or page | Rotating residential or mobile | Rotation trigger, location retention and request billing |
| A fixed address reserved for one customer | Dedicated offer | Whether “dedicated” means one customer, one port, one IP or only a private login |
| A long-running browser profile | Static or sticky option that covers the required period | Reconnect behavior after restart, expiry and fallback behavior |
The categories overlap in marketing copy. A dedicated datacenter IP remains a datacenter IP. An ISP-associated address is not automatically dedicated. A shared mobile gateway can serve more than one subscriber. “Private dedicated proxy” is useful only after the supplier defines the allocation and replacement policy in writing.
Bright Data's current rotation documentation separates datacenter, ISP, residential and mobile networks, and uses “static residential” for a fixed ISP-registered address hosted in a datacenter. That is a provider-specific product definition. Multilogin's ISP documentation describes a purchased address with a stated active period. Neither page turns its own naming into a universal taxonomy.
When a buyer evaluates a private dedicated proxy, ask three separate questions:
For a dedicated IP proxy, record the external IP, ASN or network classification only as observations. A classification service can lag a reassignment, and an external IP alone does not prove exclusivity, account acceptance or browser continuity.
Mobile products often expose rotating and sticky sessions. Decodo's documentation describes sticky ports with selectable durations and says that a device going offline can cause earlier rotation. Because the session timer and device state control the route, a buyer should ask for session duration, rotation trigger, country or carrier targeting, authentication method and restart behavior. Decodo also documents separate country endpoints and port ranges.
The words 4G and 5G describe a network category in the offer. They are not a throughput or latency benchmark. If radio access is central to a permitted QA test, ask how the supplier defines it and verify the returned network through the exact application path. Do not infer cellular egress from a product name or from a country-only IP lookup.
Consider two requests from the same team. First, an approved business-account workflow needs one connection identity across two days. A 30-minute mobile sticky session fails the time requirement before price comparison. A static or dedicated offer is a candidate only if its reconnect and replacement terms cover two days.
Second, the team needs to check how a public page renders for a cellular carrier in one market. A fixed ISP address does not establish cellular egress. A mobile route is a candidate only after the carrier, country and session behavior are verified. The correct choice changes with the acceptance test.
For a one-time country-level catalog check, a rotating residential route may be enough. If a parser loses records, first capture the destination response, required fields and authorization result. If the response contains the expected records, repair the parser against that saved fixture. If it instead contains an access challenge or different content, investigate the route and target policy; change IP category only when that evidence identifies the category as a cause. Retest against the same required record.
Ask every supplier to state the billing unit and the failure policy:
| Quote field | Why it changes the comparison |
|---|---|
| GB or request | Measures traffic or calls, not address tenure |
| IP or port | May buy an allocation, while traffic and term remain separate |
| Month or active period | Sets continuity but does not prove an unchanged exit after expiry |
| Rotation interval | Defines a session behavior, not a guarantee of carrier identity |
| Replacement rule | Determines what happens when an exit disappears or is blocked |
Do not divide a monthly dedicated quote by gigabytes and compare it with a metered rotating pool as if they were the same product. Run a small permitted workload, count valid records and include retries and replacement time in the decision.
Use an owned sandbox endpoint that returns the observed remote address and a timestamp. Keep its response contract stable. Run the script from a fresh shell, then repeat it after restarting the application within the supplier’s stated period. The response is printed for comparison; the temporary file is removed on exit.
Prerequisites: The shell example passes bash -n with Bash 3.2.57 on macOS. curl 8.7.1 is installed for the proxy request; a successful request requires an authorized endpoint. Install Bash from the official GNU Bash page and curl from the official curl download page if needed.
Run this in an interactive Bash terminal for a proxy that accepts username/password authentication. Enter only the scheme, host and port for PROXY_URL, then a username without a colon. curl receives the username through --proxy-user and prompts separately for the password, as described in its HTTP scripting documentation. The password is not placed in a shell variable or command argument. The username remains visible in curl’s arguments; the prompt does not encrypt the proxy connection.

Illustrative responses for two observations of a controlled endpoint:
first: {"remote_address":"192.0.2.10","observed_at":"2026-09-26T12:00:00Z"}
repeat: {"remote_address":"192.0.2.10","observed_at":"2026-09-26T12:05:00Z"}
The reserved address and timestamps are synthetic. Matching observations illustrate the comparison format, not a supplier continuity guarantee.
The first run is an observation, not a pass. Compare the second response after the restart. If the address changes, record when and whether the supplier's terms allow it. If the address stays the same, that still does not prove exclusivity or destination acceptance. For mobile, record carrier and country fields only if the endpoint or a separate permitted diagnostic supplies them.
If no specific carrier or long-lived address is required, start with the residential-versus-datacenter article. For session lifetime and rotation mechanics, use the sticky-session reference.
Scale your workflows with the tools you already use. Rotating or sticky sessions up to 72 hours.
